The New Edge UI auto-generates user passwords when creating new users. Users are typically then sent an email that allows them to set or change their password.
By default, the New Edge UI auto-generates passwords that are at least 8 characters long. See Resetting Edge passwords for information on how to configure Edge password rules.
You can change the password rules on the Management Server to make passwords more strict. For example, you can require multiple special characters, uppercase letters, lowercase letters, or underscores. If you change the rules on the Management Server, you can also configure the New Edge UI to auto-generate passwords compatible with the new rules.
The New Edge UI defines four properties (with a default value of
0) that you use to set the minimum character counts for
auto-generating passwords:
conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.underscore.minimum=0 conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.specialchars.minimum=0 conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.lowecase.minimum=0 conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.uppercase.minimum=0
To set these properties:
- Open the
management-ui.propertiesfile in an editor. If the file does not exist, create it:vi /opt/apigee/customer/application/management-ui.properties
- Set the properties to your desired minimums:
conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.underscore.minimum=2 conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.specialchars.minimum=3 conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.lowecase.minimum=2 conf_apigee_apigee.forgotPassword.uppercase.minimum=2
- Save your changes.
- Make sure the properties file is owned by the
apigeeuser:chown apigee:apigee /opt/apigee/customer/application/management-ui.properties
- Restart the New Edge UI:
/opt/apigee/apigee-service/bin/apigee-service edge-management-ui restart
