Manage user accounts

Manage user accounts, as described in the following sections. See also Register an app developer account.

Explore the Users page

To access the Users page:

  • Select Publish > Portals in the side navigation bar, select your portal, and click Users on the portal landing page.
  • When editing a portal, click Users in the drop-down in the top navigation bar.

A list of user accounts is displayed.

User accounts

As highlighted in the figure, the Users list enables you to:

  • View details for all registered user accounts, including:
    • Name and email
    • Activation status indicating whether the account has been approved (Active), is pending approval (Activation Needed), or is blocked (Blocked)
    • Verification status indicating whether the user has verified their account
    • Custom user account registration field values
    • Last modified time
  • View custom registration fields, including legacy data (see Add custom registration fields to the account creation page)
  • Manage user account access by approving, blocking, or deleting a user account

Configure manual approval of user accounts

By default, when an app developer creates an account it is approved automatically.

Alternatively, you can configure your portal to require manual approval by an administrator for each new user account. In this case, the status for the user account is listed as Activation Needed in the user accounts list and the user cannot sign in until the account is manually approved.

To configure manual approval of new user accounts:

  1. Select Publish > Portals in the side navigation bar and select your portal.
  2. Select Settings in the drop-down menu in the top navigation bar or on the landing page.
  3. Click the Identity Provider tab.
  4. Under Registration, select An administrator must manually approve accounts.
  5. (Optional) Under Account Request Notification, enter an email to receive a notification about the pending account approval in the Account Request Notification field.
    Note: Specify an email distribution list if you wish there to be multiple approvers.
  6. Click Save.

Approve user accounts

You may need to manually approve a user account in the following scenarios:

  • Your portal is configured to require manual approval for each user account, as described in Configure manual approval of user accounts. In this scenario, the status for the user account is listed as Activation Needed in the user accounts list. Note: The user account does not have to be verified by the user before you approve it.
  • A user account has been deactivated (or blocked) and you want to re-approve it. In this scenario, the status for the user account is listed as Blocked in the user accounts list.

To manually approve a user account:

  1. Access the Users page.
  2. Position the cursor over the user account that you want to approve to display the actions menu.
  3. Click to approve the user account.

Block user accounts

There may be times when you need to block a user account, either temporarily or permanently. In this case, the status for the user account is listed as Blocked in the user accounts list and the user cannot sign in until the account is approved.

To block a user account:

  1. Access the Users page.
  2. Position the cursor over the user account that you want to block to display the actions menu.
  3. Click to block the user account.

Delete user accounts

You can delete a user account that is no longer needed.

To delete a user account:

  1. Access the Users page.
  2. Position the cursor over the user account that you want to delete to display the actions menu.
  3. Click Delete account to delete the user account.
  4. Click Delete at the prompt to confirm the operation.
