This page describes release lifecycles and support timelines for Apigee Edge for Private Cloud. Use this policy to schedule and plan software upgrades.
This policy applies to version 4.54.00 and later. For 4.53.01 and earlier, see Apigee release process.
Support lifecycle phases
Apigee designates selected releases as long-term support (LTS). Each LTS release moves through the following phases.
| Phase | Months | What Apigee delivers | Recommended customer action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full support | 1 to 18 | Bug fixes, security resolutions, bundled component updates, and technical support. | Apply patches as required. |
| Maintenance | 19 to 36 | Fixes for critical and high-severity defects, security resolutions for high-severity vulnerabilities, operational mitigations, and technical support. | Start and complete your upgrade to an LTS release that is in full support. |
| End of life | After month 36 | No software updates, security mitigations, or technical support. | Upgrade to an LTS release that is in full support before this milestone to maintain platform security. |
Vulnerability management and resolutions
Edge for Private Cloud delivers security resolutions, bug fixes, and third-party component updates in its releases.
Apigee provides binary patches for the components it bundles. Where a binary patch cannot be applied without breaking backward compatibility, Apigee delivers documented operational mitigations.
To receive code-level vulnerability resolutions and updated components, upgrade to an LTS release that is in full support. See Support lifecycle phases.
Security for Edge for Private Cloud follows a shared responsibility model, which describes customer and Google responsibilities for each layer of your deployment.
Supported versions
The following table is the authoritative source for the end dates of full support and maintenance (end of life).
| LTS release | Released | Full support ends | Maintenance ends (end of life) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4.54.00.00 | October 2026 | April 2028 | October 2029 |
Installing a later minor release or patch does not change these dates, and it does not move you onto another LTS release's dates. Only upgrading to the next release that Apigee designates as LTS sets new dates.
For what changed in each release, see the Apigee Edge for Private Cloud release notes. For releases that have not shipped yet, see Planned releases.
Support timeline
The following table shows the 4.54 releases and the move to the next LTS release. The support dates do not change until that upgrade.
| Version | Release | LTS | Full support ends | Maintenance ends (end of life) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4.54.00.00 (initial release) | October 2026 | Yes | April 2028 | October 2029 |
| 4.54.00.YY (patch) | After October 2026 | - | April 2028 | October 2029 |
| 4.54.01.00 (minor release) | Targeted for end of Q1 2027 | - | April 2028 | October 2029 |
| Next LTS release | TBD | Yes | 18 months after its release date | 36 months after its release date |
Types of releases and their cadences
Edge for Private Cloud 4.54.00 and later ships three types of release: major, minor, and patch.
| Release type | Example | What it contains | Cadence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Major | 4.54 to 4.55 | Can include significant changes to the architecture, rewrites of components, and upgrades to bundled software components. A major release can carry a breaking change that requires action from you. | As needed, announced in advance in the release notes and listed in Planned releases. |
| Minor | 4.54.00 to 4.54.01 | Can include cumulative bug fixes, configuration changes, installer changes, documentation changes, enhancements, features, and security vulnerability mitigation. | As needed, announced in advance in the release notes and listed in Planned releases. |
| Patch | 4.54.00 to 4.54.00.06 | Priority issues resolved for customers, including security vulnerability mitigation. No new features, and no configuration changes. | On demand for a release in full support. For a release in maintenance, limited to critical and high-severity fixes. |
Apigee announces each major and minor release in advance in the Apigee Edge for Private Cloud release notes. Edge for Private Cloud release types do not follow a fixed schedule.
Version numbers
Releases 4.54.00 and later use the version numbering scheme
4.5N.XX.YY, four parts separated by periods. The following
table breaks down version 4.54.00.04.
| Part | Value in 4.54.00.04 | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
Product line (4) |
4 |
The product line. It is the same for every Edge for Private Cloud version. |
Major version (5N) |
54 |
The major version. A change here carries a breaking change or an architectural change. See Types of releases and their cadences. |
Minor version (XX) |
00 |
The minor version. Apigee can designate a minor release as LTS, which gives it its own support dates. See Supported versions. |
Patch (YY) |
04 |
The patch. A patch does not carry the LTS designation, so installing one does not change when full support or maintenance ends. |
There is no fifth part. Releases 4.53.01 and earlier used a
ZZ hot fix part; see
Versioning
numbering scheme in the Apigee release process.
Planned releases
The following table lists the current target for each planned release. These are planning targets rather than commitments, and they can change. Apigee confirms a release when it publishes the release notes.
| Version | Targeted timeline | Release type | Support impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4.54.01.00 | Targeted for end of Q1 2027 | Minor | Shares the 4.54.00.00 LTS timeline: full support ends April 2028, and maintenance ends October 2029. |
Upgradability matrix
The following table gives the supported upgrade paths.
| From | To | Path |
|---|---|---|
| Your 4.54 version | Any later 4.54 minor release | Direct. You can skip the minor releases in between. |
| 4.53.00 or 4.53.01 | 4.54.00 | Direct. See Update Apigee Edge 4.53.00 or 4.53.01 to 4.54.00. |
